11th Olympus Marathon

Olympus Marathon is a unique trail running race, taking place annually on Mt. Olympus, the mythical „Mountain of the Gods“ on the last Sunday of June. The race route follows the sacred path of the ancient pilgrims, who traveled from the city of Dion to the peaks of Olympus to lay their tributes to the supreme god, Zeus. Starting from the archaeological site of Dion, the race covers a 21km over 2900 meters ascent, bypassing the „Throne of Zeus,“ one of the highest and most rugged mountain peaks, in a route of outstanding natural beauty through the Mt. Olympus trails.
The 11th Olympus Marathon was successfully held on Sunday, June 29th with 557 participating international athletes under the slogan “Running with the Gods”. Competition was high, the weather proved favorable and temperatures ideal, aiding many participants into high performances and new individual record scores. The race was won for the second consecutive year by the Greek athlete, Dimitris Theodorakakos in the men’s and Bulgarian Hristina Kozareva in the women’s categories respectively. The 11th Olympus Marathon was supported by DIOS Mineral Natural Water, by meeting the organization needs and properly hydrating the participant athletes.
